Where to donate furniture in Philadelphia

What local partners usually accept, what they turn away, and how a pickup crew can donate the pieces that still have a life.

Start with what is still usable

A donation partner will usually take a clean sofa, a solid dresser, a working lamp or a table that stands on its own. Torn upholstery, broken frames, stained mattresses and anything with bugs or mold are not donations. Those belong on a junk truck.

You do not have to deliver it

Many Philadelphia charities have limited pickup routes and small trucks. If a piece is on a third floor or will not fit in your car, a junk crew can carry it out and drop usable items with a donation partner before anything is recycled or thrown out.

Ask for a receipt

Tell the crew you want a donation receipt before the job starts. They can set aside the pieces that qualify and note them. The receipt is for your records. The charity decides what it can actually put on a floor.

What usually cannot be donated

Mattresses are often refused unless a specific program asks for them. Sleeper sofas, particle-board furniture that has swollen, and cribs that are not current are commonly turned away. Text a photo if you are unsure and we will tell you before pickup day.
